Iwan Rheon and a range of other talented Welsh actors are set to star in Men Up, a feature-length drama-live that’s inspired by a true story and explores the 1994 clinical trials for Viagra conducted in Swansea. The television program Men Up was created through a collaborative effort between Quay Street Productions and Boom for BBC One and BBC iPlayer in a co-commission with BBC Wales.

The BBC has greenlit Men Up, a new drama-live that will recount the story of the first-ever medical trials for Viagra that took place in Swansea, Wales. The film which features a star-studded Welsh cast, including Iwan Rheon, Steffan Rhodri, Phaldut Sharma, Paul Rhys, and Mark Lewis Jones. The show’s executive producer, Russell T Davies, is well known for his critically acclaimed drama-lives, including Doctor Who and Queer as Folk, and his involvement in Men Up is sure to add another layer of depth and insight to the program.

Men Up follows the true story of five middle-aged Welsh men, Meurig, Colin, Pete, Eddie, and Tommy, who struggle with impotence and are given the opportunity to participate in clinical trials for an experimental drug, later known as Viagra, that could potentially cure their condition. The trials were conducted by Dr Dylan Pearce, played by Aneurin Barnard from Dunkirk.
